Public Notice: Intent to Submit Application for Grant

Stockdale Independent School District in partnership with Karnes City Independent School District, fiscal agent intends to apply for a 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) Grant. The purpose of the Texas 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Program, also known as Texas Afterschool Centers on Education (ACE), Cycle 10, Year 1, is to provide opportunities beyond the regular school day for communities to establish or expand activities in community learning centers that:

(1) provide opportunities for academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help children, particularly students who attend low-performing schools, to meet the challenging state academic standards.

(2) offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities such as youth development activities, service learning, nutrition and health education, drug- and violence-programs; technology education programs, financial literacy programs, environmental literacy programs, mathematics, science, career and technical programs, internship or apprenticeship programs, and other ties to an in-demand industry sector or occupation for high school students that are designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program of participating students.

(3) offer families of students served by community learning centers opportunities for  active and meaningful engagement in their children’s education, including opportunities for literacy and related educational development.

Program activities must be offered only when schools are not in session (before or after school, during holidays, or during summer recess). The program must be carried out in active collaboration with the schools the students attend. Applications must document partnerships between a Local Education Agency (LEA), a Community Based Organization (CBO), and other public or private organizations, if appropriate.

Public input about the proposed 21st CCLC Program may be made to Frances Ehrlich, ACE Program Director, 830-780-2321 ext 230, or fehrlich@kcisd.net.

The grant proposal will be submitted to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) by May 1, 2018, and will be reviewed and scored by a peer review committee.  The grant application will be available for public review after submission of the application. The Peer Review Committee will determine the quality of the proposal and awards will be announced by June 2018 pending TEA’s 21st Century Community Learning Center approval.
