The Hunt Leadership Scholars Program
Application Deadline of January 15
The Hunt Leadership Scholars program allows students to combine learning and leadership in a unique way at SMU. We are looking for 20-25 students each year who have demonstrated extraordinary leadership in high school, and who will passionately pursue leadership as Mustangs. Hunt Scholars take a leadership development course together during their first semester on campus, enjoy wide access to the Tate Lecture Series, engage with campus, community, and world leaders, and create a lifelong network of leaders by working alongside one another.
Effective for the SMU Class of 2022, Hunt Scholars will be awarded a flat-rate scholarship. We are especially pleased about this change. It will simplify the explanation of how the Hunt Scholarship works and provide students with more transparency about how much funding they will receive over the course of their four years at SMU. Students selected as Hunt Leadership Scholars for the Class of 2022 will receive an annual Hunt Scholarship of $42,000, or a total of $168,000 over four years.
Additionally, we are thrilled to launch a new international trip beginning with the Hunt Scholars Class of 2022. The Scholars will participate in an international, leadership-based experience together during May following their sophomore year. Of course, Hunt Scholars will still have access to all of SMU’s many study abroad programs; but we look forward to the benefits provided through a cohort-based program, as well.
Our application deadline of January 15 and selection criteria, however, have not changed; and I would encourage you to send any of your interested students my way. I would love to answer their questions about the application or the program itself. We are still looking for the top student leaders in your school, with the hope they will bring their leadership gifts to SMU and become an integral part of our community of world changers.
