Stockdale Elementary School competes in “Name That Book”
Students at Stockdale Elementary participated in the “Name That Book!”competition. The competition is for 3rd -5th graders who enjoy reading. Students had to qualify for the competition in January and were then placed on teams. The teams were given a list of thirty books to read throughout the year to prepare for the competition. The competition is set up similar to a game show. The teams are orally given a quote and they have to determine which book the quote comes from without an actual list in front of them. With each correct answer the teams are awarded points. The team with the most points after 25 questions wins the competition. The local winning team advances to the Area competition in Seguin to compete against the winning teams of each of Seguin’s elementary schools.
Stockdale held its local competition on May 13. The competition was very close and exciting! The teams and places consisted of the following:
1st Place----Rocket Readers: Cora Akin, Hayden Hajovsky, Stephen Heathcoe, Luke Scribner, Tristan Torres and Coach Tanya Eller
2nd Place---Book Mites: Kenan Haecker, Ivan Martinez, Parker Martinez, Trentyn Voelkel, Jalietza Zepeda and Coach Tracy Clapp
3rd Place---Royal Readers: Logan Baker, Ashton Cessor, Austin McKenzie, Jacklyn Vasquez and Coach Beverly Hummel
4th Place---Book Bandits: Jonathan Borchardt, Blakely Cavazos, Brooke Deagen, Fabian Tello, Lexi West and Coach Kay Deagen
The Rocket Readers and qualifying members advanced to compete in Seguin at the Area Meet on May 19. Team members included Hayden Hajovsky, Stephen Heathcoe, Parker Martinez, Luke Scribner, and Jalietza Zepeda. The Rocket Readers did an outstanding job of representing Stockdale. The competition in Seguin was a nail biter! The Rocket Readers ended up in a three way tie with Weinert and Vogel!! The teams competed in a thrilling tie breaker with Vogel finishing 1st, Stockdale Rocket Readers 2nd, and Weinert in 3rd place.
Stockdale Elementary is so proud of our Rocket Reader team members, coaches, and all the participants in this year’s “Name That Book” competition. We are already looking forward to another great competition next year!!
