Name that Book!!!

Students at Stockdale Elementary participated in a competition called, “Name That Book!” The competition is for 3rd -5th graders who enjoy reading. Students had to qualify for the competition in October and were then placed on teams. The teams were given a list with twenty books to read throughout the year to prepare for the competition. The competition is set up similar to a game show. The teams are orally given a quote and they have to determine which book the quote comes from without an actual list in from of them. With each correct answer the teams are awarded points. The team with most points after 25 questions wins the competition. The local winning team advances to the Regional competition in Seguin to compete against the winning teams of each of Seguin’s elementary schools.

Stockdale held its local competition on May 22 with 37 students competing on seven teams. The competition was very close and exciting! The point spread between all of the teams at the end of the competition was only three points. We also had a tie breaker to determine 2nd and 3rd place.  The teams and places consisted of the following:

1st Place----Book Worms: Ashton Cessor, Michael Crouch, Brooke Deagen, Hayden Hajovsky, Bethany Heimann, and Coach Kay Deagen

2nd Place---The Novel Ideas:  Emily Aguilar, Jon Borchardt, Daysen Gomes, Kenan Haecker, Billy Rivas, Cotter Simpson and Coach Denay Simpson

3rd Place---The Book Warriors: Seth Darilek, Stephen Heathcoe, RJ Marquez, Alyson Rice, Kaylee Sanchez and Coach Diana Sanchez

Bookmaniacs: Sam Garcia, Taylor McGrew, Austin McKenzie, Trentyn Voelkel, Zoey White , and Coach Brigit Lucas

Ravenous Readers----Logan Baker, Blakely Cavazos, Heaven Marquez, Staci Nugent, Barson Schmidt, Luke Scribner, and Coach Tracy Clapp

All Star Readers---Jaren Cano, Parker Martinez, Nikko Monita, Jayden Soefje, Jalietza Zepeda, and Coach Tanya Eller

Book Thieves----Cora Akin, Travis Bishop, Jake Ferguson, Ethan Fratelli, Andrew Voelkel, and Coach Pat Rutland

The Book Worms advanced to compete in Seguin at the Regional competition on May 27 and did a great job representing Stockdale Elementary tying for 6th place. The Name That Book teams and coaches would like to thank the following people and businesses for their generous donations in helping to purchase t-shirts, medals, certificates, and books: Ruthie Wagener, Built Rite Homes, Bang Electric, and Bennie & Debbie Martinez. We would also like to thank Kenneth Clapp for designing the t-shirts.  Stockdale Elementary teachers and students are already looking forward to another great competition next year!
