Treasure Hunt

On Friday, September 20, 2013, my 7th grade History classes went on a well deserved treasure hunt.  In class we have been studying early Spanish Exploration in Texas.  Most recently we had a lesson that focused on whether or not technology would have helped or hindered early explorers in Texas.  

Many of the students came to the conclusion that it definitely would have helped so we decided to put the theory to test in a real life situation.  Each class was split into two teams.  One team received a map of Stockdale ISD in 1949, while the other group received a GPS device.  The conclusion came to be a split decision because the group with the GPS found the treasure in my first class and the group with the map found the treasure in my second class.  In both classes the students had a lot of fun and learned what it would have been like to be an early explorer searching for gold.
